If only I could go back in time and do some things different. Of course while I can’t do that, I can share with you my BEST money advice for 18 year olds, 20 year olds or just anyone out here trying to manage this thing called money. These are things I WISH I knew at 18 about money (but hey, better late than never right?). These will be unique tips, not your typical “save for retirement” or “don’t get into debt. These are unique money tips! Let's discuss credit card traps and how to opt out of those credit card offers in the mail so you aren't tempted to spiral down the debt black hole. Also the college transfer process and why community college is better than university for starting off your college life. Or how about this? To hell with college all together?! What are the opportunity costs of following the herd and doing “the right thing?” What if you don’t want to go to college anymore? You really don’t have to in this day and age. I know you have heard credit cards are for emergencies but that is a vicious lie probably spread by the credit card companies themselves. Credit cards can have the potential to unlock many opportunities to become ultra rich but not without a lot of discipline, delayed gratification and times where you have to turn down the turn up. If you establish good credit, you can take control of assets that you wouldn’t normally be able to be in cash (like a multi-family property) and rent it out for cash flow. Now you basically have a free house and money coming into your pocket. But it starts with using credit cards the right way! Ultimately these tips are not easy and they are not for the weak. You have to live lean, take calculated risks and turn down a lot of things your peers may be doing because you know financial freedom is more important than bottomless mimosas.
