Why all great art tells a story

Your art style is so much more than the way your work looks, it's EVERYTHING. The colors you choose, the way you make your marks, your compositions, the storytelling you imbue into your work, your state of mind -- ALL OF IT. This is not your typical video about art style. Everyone's always talking about HOW to FIND their art style.. but nobody's really talking about what an art style even IS. Is it a recurring pattern in your work, a coherent visual identity (and what even is a coherent visual identity?) is it the way you make your marks, or the colors you choose? Art style seems obvious when we're comparing two artists against each other, particularly if they fall into different movements, but what's the actual definition of it? In this video, I try to get to the bottom of the problem and really land on a definition for the term "art style" but it gets, well, complicated.
