10 Common Watercolor Mistakes (Loose Lilacs)

In this video, I also talk through 10 common watercolor struggles like overworking, water control, muddy color, and how to loosen up your floral painting process. I’m sharing a small watercolor postcard of lilacs painted in a loose, expressive style—plus a few real-time thoughts. These little studies are some of my favorite ways to practice. They don’t always go perfectly, and honestly… that’s part of the beauty of them. You’ll also see how I sometimes bring a piece back to life using pen and ink. In this case, I added the word GRACE, which I love doing with my floral pieces. It’s a simple way to turn an “almost” painting into something I actually enjoy.
