Altogether he spent 26 years at The Economist, working as a correspondent and editor in Brussels, Tokyo and London, on subjects ranging from politics to finance, economics and business. He has published many books and documentary films on Japan, Italy, liberalism and globalisation, including "The Great European Disaster Movie", broadcast on BBC Four of which he was Executive Producer. He is chair of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, and also of the Global Disinformation Index, a non-profit. He acts as Senior Adviser for Geopolitics for Montrose Associates, a London-based strategic intelligence consultancy.
