The new LinkedIn freelance marketplace lets you create a service page to showcase your skills for companies looking to hire freelance talent. LinkedIn's service marketplace marks an interesting turning point for LinkedIn under the wing of Microsoft, which picked up about 25 million new users in the last quarter. The Service Marketplace is launching with 250 job categories, and the plan is to expand that to 500. At present, LinkedIn's freelance service marketplace is missing a lot of features that exist on platforms like Upwork and Fiverr. Out of all the current limitations, the biggest one for me is freelancers not being able to search for jobs themselves. Clients can find you on LinkedIn, but you cannot find them. That means the freelance service marketplace is currently 100% invite-only, like Fiverr and the Upwork project catalog. Upwork and Fiverr will continue leading the way and at the moment LinkedIn does not pose any threat to them. Upwork actually just had a massive 3rd quarter with revenue up 32%. However, even with all the missing features, as a full-time freelancer, I love this move by LinkedIn.
