In this video I’m breaking down the DZOFILM Arles Primes and why they’ve been one of the more “cinema-feeling” lens options if you don’t want to get absolutely wrecked by the price of the big-name sets. I walk through the general overview and pricing, then get into the real stuff that matters when you’re actually shooting: specs, how they handle, and what the image looks like in practice. I also compare them directly to the Vespid II line because that’s the obvious question—size, weight, and which set makes more sense depending on your work. From there I run test shots and focus on the big talking points: color consistency across the set, sharpness (and what’s happening on the edges), and focus breathing. I also highlight the new 18mm and where it slots in for my kind of cinematography work—wider shots without it feeling like a weird, distorted specialty lens. The takeaway is simple: Arles can get you that cinematic character and consistency you want, while still being realistic for a freelance kit, and I’ll tell you when I’d reach for Arles vs when Vespid II is the smarter, more practical move.
