In this video I wanted to have a real one-on-one with you—especially if you’re thinking about electrical engineering, you’re already in another engineering major, or you’re debating switching paths. I’m Jodabeni, I work as a hardware/RF engineer at a defense company, and I’m also in the Army. From my experience, electrical engineering is one of the most solid choices you can make because it’s niche, it’s in demand, and there simply aren’t enough of us graduating compared to majors like software and computer science. I break down what I saw in school and in the job market: my EE graduating class was about 15 people while software/CS had over 100, and that shortage shows up when you job hunt. I talk about how I had zero internships, still got hired about a month and a half after graduating (Dec 2022 to Feb 2023), and why recruiters constantly hit me up on LinkedIn for EE, RF, and hardware roles—especially in defense where they’re always hiring. I also compare EE vs software: you can learn coding later (most EEs already use Python), but it’s way harder to “back-learn” circuits and hardware without school labs and expensive equipment. Bottom line: EE is hard, math-heavy, but it pays well, travels well, and makes bouncing back from layoffs way easier.
