I remember back in 2006, I got my first ever webcam. It was a piece of garbage. Not because the image looked terrible or anything, it was because I was stupid and didn’t know how to get it to work. I know right? 6th grade me should never have a youtube channel based on technology, but here I am. But webcams have come a long way. This is the Logitech Streamcam plus. A $170 webcam, that is catered towards streamers. Is the Logitech streamcam quality good enough to justify that high-high price tag? Let’s find out with a little review. Product Amazon Affiliate Link: Logitech StreamCam: https://amzn.to/2vsgKtB Check out the amazon affiliate links to the gear I use in my videos here: Sony A7III: https://amzn.to/2tVF1rj Sony Alpha a5100: https://amzn.to/2F2xCb4 Sony SEL35F18 Lens: https://amzn.to/2F5L8Lb Blue Yeti: https://amzn.to/2O5KK3o Zoom H1n: https://amzn.to/2O5HxRm Sony Lavalier Mic: https://amzn.to/2u8UH6X Vanguard Alta Pro 263AB Tripod: https://amzn.to/2O7V8Yn 13in Macbook Pro non-touchbar: https://amzn.to/2F4uz27 Philips Hue Light Strip: https://amzn.to/2VZq2EV Godox SL-60W: https://amzn.to/37LsdT0 Rode VideoMic NTG: https://amzn.to/2RKHVrL First let's talk about what comes in the box, the webcam itself, a holder for the webcam that has your standard tripod mounting hole, and a mini little tripod to hold it. Pretty nice package they got here. Oh, and a 3 month trial for Xsplit. Moving on the stream cam looks and feels pretty nice with some fabric in the front, and hard plastic in the rest of the body. Sadly, the cable is permanently attached to the streamcam, but the cable is nice and thick. The camera also has this little clamp on the back that lets it attach to your laptop, or monitor. You may not have noticed this either, because it’s hard to see, but there are rubber pads on the edge of the clamp, and all on the top portion of the clamp. And, another hidden feature is that there is a microphone on this thing, it’s just hidden underneath this fabric area. They did a great job making this webcam look completely seamless. The streamcam can swivel about 45 degrees either way, and you can tilt it forward almost all the way into itself. Which is completely impractical to do, but at least you now know this webcam can do yoga better than you ever can. To use the webcam with the tripod, you can detach it from it’s display clamp, and attach the tripod mounting holder onto it before screwing it into its tripod or any other tripod. As you’ve seen so far in this video, when using the Logitech streamcam in great lighting, it looks really really good. That’s really all you need from a webcam…. Of course, in less ideal situations like an overcast day with the blinds partially closed. The image isn’t the best but not the worst I’ve seen. At night, with the lights on, it still struggles a bit. But when you compare it to how well the well the webcam on my MacBook looks, the Logitech Stream cam looks significantly better and makes the webcam on my macbook look like a bonafide potato. Now let’s talk about what really makes this streamcam special the Logi Capture software with the Logitech capture software you’re able to access a lot of really cool features of the webcam. Now let’s talk about some negatives about this webcam, the first biggest glaring issue I find with the Logitech Streamcam is that it uses USB C. Now that wouldn’t be an issue if it wasn’t ONLY usb-C. USB-C is great but for people looking at this device to stream, having interchangeable usb 3.0 and usb type c connections might be the way to go. But, then again, most modern laptops should have this port. You can, however, get a usb C to usb 3 adapter separately to fix that. But it’s a little bit of a hassle. I’m just looking out for the little old dinosaurs out there. Second, all of its features have to be accessed through the logi capture software. This is just a minor inconvenience, but I thought I should point it out. But on Mac OS, that a major inconvenience because at the moment Logitech Capture doesn’t support the “virtual camera” that is required to apply all those cool features, like auto framing. This makes it a harder price to swallow for Mac users. Lastly, the price tag, at $170 is a bit high. But overall, if you’re a streamer for a living, or want one of the best one man streaming setups, this Logitech streamcam would definitely help. Anyway guys, what do you think? Do you think this is a good upgrade over the popular C920?
