Airpods Pro Review: After 3 Weeks

The AirPods pros have been my daily driver for the last 3 weeks. And so this is living with the AirPods pro. Are they worth your money? Time for a little review. No seriously, the case got thicc but still fits in your pocket and neatly in any place. And the AirPods pro ear bud looks really different from the original. The stems are shorter, and it got a lip injection done on earbuds. The battery life is similar to the old AirPods but 30 mins less of listening time on the AirPods pro because of noise canceling. And to be honest, if you haven’t taken your AirPods off for within a 4 and a half hour period, you’re either on a plane, or asleep. It’s honestly, plenty of battery life. The charging cable it comes with is a usb c to lightning cable, which means your iPhone power brick from 10 years ago won’t be charging this if you’re using the supplied cable. Now let's get into the details starting with how they fit. And I’ll be honest, they fit significantly better than AirPods. While the AirPods pro are in you won’t get too concerned with if they are loose or not. There’s a feature to ensure you have the right size ear tips on and different sizes come inside the box. AirPods always felt like they were resting right outside your ear, but the pros sit inside, snuggly, and don't fall out. Let’s talk sound quality. It sounds better than the AirPods. Is it the best sounding earbuds in its class? haha, no. I mean, it sounds good, and is an upgrade over AirPods but there are better options if all you care about is sound. The moment you put the ear buds in they’re in transparency mode. Which is the mode that lets you ease drop on everything. It pretty much makes the outside world sound like you don’t have earbuds on. It’s kind of creepy but oh so cool. To turn on noise cancelling you pinch and hold the stem of the AirPods pro. A little -dun- sound plays and the world silences around you. Well not absolutely silent. You’ll look stupid with that look on your face. All playback functions on the AirPods pros are done by pinching the stem of the AirPods pro. At this point of the review I want to discuss the noise cancelling capabilities of these luscious lips AirPods. When you put them on, you notice a drop in noise, due to the seal they create in your ears. In transparency mode you can hear me as if you didn’t have them on. I call this mode. ease-drop mode for short. From there, if you pinch and hold the AirPods pro stem for a second, it switches to noise cancelling mode which either gets rid of the noise, or really really lowers it. You can press and hold the volume slider when the AirPods pros are connected, and it lets you turn off noise cancelling and transparency mode. By default, a pinch only switches between transparency and noise cancelling but this can be changed in the AirPods pro’s Bluetooth settings. I love that they’re light, portable and easy to use. The features are great, and function the way they intended. I find that they’re more comfortable to use on an airplane than headphones because they don’t put pressure on my head, and warm up my ears. I fall asleep on the plane so easily with these. Honestly, before the AirPods pro, my headphone usage looked like this. 50% of the time I used AirPods for convenience, like popping them on, on a quick bus ride, or walk in the city, the other 50%, I used my Sony 1000XM3 for better sound quality and its amazing noise cancelling capabilities. Now, its more 75% AirPods pro usage, Now, some of the negatives. There still isn’t volume control built into the AirPods pros and you can’t set any of the defaults to change volume either. It’s annoying and they really should allow that. I’ve been controlling it with my apple watch, but that’s not ideal. Second, when you squeeze and hold the stem for a second, sometimes but rarely, it doesn’t make the noise it does when you squeeze the stem, making you believe that you didn’t do it properly. Basically, imagine double squeezing the stem, to skip a track, and you don’t hear the second “click”, you’ll assume that “Oh, I forgot to squeeze again”, you’ll squeeze a third time, and the track goes back one. It’s a little annoying.
