About This Video

In this video I’m up on the RV roof showing you exactly how I replace those cracked, sun-baked roof vent caps before they turn into a leak. It’s one of those simple maintenance jobs that doesn’t take a ton of time, but it can save you a lot of headache later—especially if your cap is brittle, missing pieces, or you’ve got signs of water getting in around the flange. And yeah… don’t look down. Working on a roof is no joke, so take your time and be safe. I walk through pulling the old cap, cleaning up the old sealant without tearing up the roof material, and then installing the new cap the right way. I also show the sealing steps I use: butyl tape where it belongs and Dicor lap sealant to finish it off so it stays weather-tight. I’ll also talk about the cap options—plastic vs aluminum—so you can pick what makes sense for your RV and how you use it. The big takeaway: prep and sealing matter more than the cap itself, and doing it clean is what keeps your RV protected from the elements.
