Success & Failure In My Garden - 2023 Edition

Now that we've been in our "dream house" for almost three years, I thought it would be a good idea to update you on how things are looking in my yard and garden. Over the last year, I've mostly had success in my work with the yard, but yes... there have been a few failures that I've learned from. My yard is quite unusual... I'm certain that I have more trees in my yard that anyone else in my neighborhood! Most of them are Maple trees of various varieties... but I also have a few Spruce trees as well as several different types of fruit trees. The Amur Maple has been an important part of my landscaping plan, as it is extremely fast growing and does a great job of providing privacy from the other houses in the neighborhood. On the other hand, I've definitely seen why the Amur Maple is described as an invasive species... it drop seeds like crazy, and hundreds of seedlings can pop up in the area around each Amur Maple. I'm retired after a 28-year career at a nuclear power plant... so, these days, I spend a LOT of time out in my yard. It doesn't feel like work, either. It feels like I'm living the dream!
