My mother's Garden

When I was young, my mom’s garden was an afterthought to me. I wasn’t too interested, really… i was young and trying to figure myself out. But it was always there, and so was my mom, out there tending to her sea of beauty. And so it’s surreal to enter that space now, a camera in hand, finally able to appreciate these flowers and the stories my mother has been telling all these years. My mother’s garden is the story of color and light. Photons travel millions of miles from the sun to literally bring to light her garden Here, the illuminated water and brilliant greens are the sun’s gift to a gardener. Light is literally life, and her flowers have always been a testament to that. My mom - she’s created all this beauty in the world. And her garden is just a reflection. It’s an echo of the awe I feel when I’m outside and I see so many beautiful things. Creating beauty is what she’s always done - it’s who she is - and even if her garden has faded… these photos are a testament to the enduring beauty of what she’s given to the world. It’s a reason for all of us to remember to go out and enjoy the world around us, to be in awe of nature, and to let it heal us. Let the light into our hearts. And the story of my mother’s garden - the story of my mother - is with me every time I take photos of nature. So when I take photographs in Texas, or Alabama, or anywhere I’ve been, and all the places I’ve still yet to see - I continue her story.
