About This Video

First things first when I land anywhere: I’m finding coffee. Then I’m explaining why I’m in Amsterdam—Atlassian flew me out to host the Codegeist Unleashed hackathon where teams built AI apps on the Atlassian platform. Out of 189 submissions from around the world, the top three teams made it to Amsterdam to compete for the $10,000 grand prize (and a trip to Team ’24 in Las Vegas). Before we get into the competition, I take a little time to explore the city—yes, the bikes are everywhere, and yes, everybody feels like a giant out here. From there, I head into Atlassian’s Unleash conference where AI is the main attraction—specifically Atlassian Intelligence. I break down what they shared: AI summaries, tone changes, project context, and even help with pull requests and AI-assisted code reviews. They also talk about reducing developer cognitive load with Compass, a developer platform that helps teams catalog templates, docs, owners, and code snippets so you can ramp up fast and ship features that scale. I also sit down with Atlassian’s Head of AI to talk misconceptions (like “AI is taking my job”), how AI agents can feel like virtual teammates, and how I personally use tools like ChatGPT to bounce ideas and clean up writing. Then it’s showtime: I’m on stage presenting the three finalists—and we crown the winner after the votes are tallied.
