At just 24, Marissa Garcia is already changing lives. Voted for by students, Marissa received the “Big Sister Award,” a reflection of the deep trust she’s built by showing up day after day, especially when it matters most. Recently accepted into graduate school to pursue social work, Marissa is just getting started. About Youth Mental Health Corps The Youth Mental Health Corps (YMHC) is a national service initiative working to address two urgent challenges: the growing youth mental health crisis and the shortage of behavioral health professionals. The program places trained young adults in schools, community organizations, and youth-serving spaces where they provide near-peer mental health support to middle and high school students. Youth Mental Health Corps has 800-plus members to date, is currently active in 11 states, and expects to be in 16 states by fall 2026.
