It is all over the news right now that the President may declare housing a national emergency as early as this fall. In this video, I cover how this declaration leads to two paths to lower mortgage rates. In this video I focus on mortgage back securities. Mortgage backed securities are the key that a lot of people don’t talk about. People talk about the Fed Rate and the 10 year treasury but ultimately having an end buyer for mortgage back securities who is buying in bulk equals lower rates. Fun fact in 2008 and 2009 the treasury bought over $225 billion worth of mortgage back securities by 2011. This had equal a 20+ billion profit for the American people. Are we about to see history repeat itself? Check out this for historical context. https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/tg1453
