Let's make a witch hat in real time, no counting, no pattern, just free style! ETSY Shop - https://jaydainstitches.etsy.com Notes - I used acrylic size 4 yarn and a 4.50 (G/6 or 7) hook. - Chain a length that fits around your head, over your ears. Join with a sc or a hdc and sc or hdc in each ch around. No need to join rows! Just sc or hdc in every stitch. You can alternate between sc and hdc by the row. - Other than my first 2 rows which were SC, I used HDC for the rest of the hat. - Try it on often and before you start to decrease, be sure it clears the top of your head! - Decrease evenly in a row, then crochet without decreases for at least 1 row (I typically did 2 rows of straight crochet in between rows of decrease). - Adding in an extra strand of yarn in the occasional row adds texture, colour and strength. - decrease until you have a point, fasten off. - Join yarn at the bottom to add a brim. I started with "2 hdc, hdc, hdc" around and that rows stuck out fairly flat and even. - 2nd Brim Row I used "2 hdc, hdc, hdc, hdc" - 3rd Brim Row I used "2 hdc, in the next 4 sts, 2 hdc, hdc in the next 6 sts" - 4th, 5th & 6th Brim Rows I hdc in each st around - 7th Brim Row I slip stitched in each st around for strength.
