The Bougainvillea bushes around the kibbutz are in full bloom and their color is so lovely I simply had to try and see what this would look like. I must say the result is surprising. For this video I used a non-superwash Merino/Suffolk blend yarn. About This Video

The bougainvillea bushes around the kibbutz were absolutely popping with color, and I couldn’t resist turning that inspiration into a natural dye experiment. In this video I take you along while I dye yarn with bougainvillea and see what kind of shade we can actually pull out of those gorgeous blooms. I’m using a non-superwash Merino/Suffolk blend, because I wanted a yarn that would really grab onto a natural dye and show me what it can do. I walk through the process and the “okay, let’s see what happens” moments that always come with botanical dyeing—because nature doesn’t always behave the way we expect. And honestly? The result surprised me. If you’ve been curious about natural yarn dyeing but you’re intimidated by it, this is a nice reminder that experiments don’t have to be perfect to be fun—and you can get some really interesting color from what’s growing right around you. It’s a cozy, yarny little adventure with a pretty payoff, plus a good example of why fiber content and yarn prep matter when you’re dyeing with plants.
