How would you like your winter hive setup to be rated? In this series "Rate My Winter Hive Setup", I will rate viewers setups once a month until winter is over. Learn how others prepare their bee hives for winter in different regions. Instructions are below to submit your own setup.. To Enter (Follow instructions carefully or your photo will NOT be used) 1. Email me at Honeycomb_hill@yahoo.com 2. In the emails Subject box title it "Rate My Winter Setup" 3. At the top of email include your *Location*, your *Average Winter Temperatures*, *Estimate Food Stores* weight of your hive and the *Desired Weight Food Stores* winter in your region (if you know it) and then write a short description discussing your hive setup from the bottom to the top. Also include if you are using quilting boxes or other forms of moisture control inside the colony. 4. The equipment size rather it be 10 frame, 8 frame or just a 5 frame nuc setup does not matter, enter whatever setup you have. 5. One photo per entry and I prefer landscape images (turn phone on side to take picture). Also make sure the picture is close enough to see the hive in detail. *Below is an example of what the email should look like* *Email Subject:* Rate My Winter Setup *Location:* Central Ohio *Average Winter Temps:* 15°F-mid 30's *Estimated Food Stores:* 85 pounds *Desired Food Stores:* 100 pounds (10 Frame hives) *Short Description:* Double deep 10 frame colony with a 2" shim on top for the mountain camp method, Upper & lower entrances, Screened bottom fully open, Top cover slopped away from entrances, Bottom board sloped forward so moisture runs away from lower hive entrance.
