Podcasts have eliminated high barriers to expression of voice by individuals and communities. In the African context, radio is the most widespread medium, reaching urban areas and remote rural areas. Broadcast, print and radio typically have gate-keepers limiting the diversity of voices, opinions and perspectives that society hears. Now with broadening access to internet through mobile devices, podcasts have presented an opportunity for individuals and communities from all walks of life to express themselves and connect with audiences at a global scale.
