Iceland LXIV – Volcano Sundhnukagigar Erupts for the 7th time in One year │ Part 160

* * * Eruption Number 10 Since 2021 Just Started in Iceland – Is Vogar My Home Town in danger? * * * An eruption has begun on the Reykjaness peninsula after increased seismic activity became apparent near the Sundhnúka craters. The eruption began near Stóra Skógfell at 23.14. Evacuation has occurred in Grindavík town, Svartsengi Power Plant, and Blue Lagoon. The lava has now come over the Njarðvíkuræðin hot water pipeline, which transports hot water from Svartsengi to Vogar and Reykjanesbær. Is it the same pipe that broke up last February with the result that hot water went off most of Reykjanes. The parking lot of the Blue Lagoon has been covered by lava. In total, about 350 parking spaces went under the lava, as well as bus parking. The energy companies are most concerned about electricity transmission in the region The lava flows to the west from the fissure considerably, but the tongue is much more defined than in previous eruptions.
