Renting a Car After a Port Canaveral Cruise Was Easier Than Expected

Getting off a cruise in Port Canaveral and need a rental car? We found free rental car shuttles right at the cruise port — and renting a car after our cruise was easier than expected. 🚗🛳️ After arriving back in Florida on the Carnival Glory from Europe, our journey still wasn’t over. We needed to get from Port Canaveral to Fort Lauderdale, and eventually toward Miami, so we started comparing our transportation options: Brightline, Uber, Lyft, cruise transfers, and a one-way rental car. In this video, we show the actual rental car shuttle pickup area at Port Canaveral, including shuttle options we saw for Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Alamo, and National. We booked with Hertz, called the number posted at the shuttle pickup sign, and the shuttle came right back to pick us up. Our one-way rental from Port Canaveral to Fort Lauderdale Airport was about $109 for 24 hours, which worked perfectly for us because we had luggage, wanted control of our schedule, and were not flying home from Orlando. We also explain why the Brightline train from Orlando was not the best fit for this trip. Brightline is a great option in Florida, but from Port Canaveral you still have to get transportation back toward Orlando first — which adds time, cost, and another step after getting off the ship. Once we arrived at the Hertz rental location, we show what the process looked like, including the Hertz Gold area, regular reservation line, why you still need to show your driver’s license at this location, and how long it took us to get on the road. We also share a quick SunPass rental car tip for Florida toll roads, especially if you bring your own transponder and want to avoid rental car toll fees.
