Queen Mary 2 Winter Crossing | Day 3 of 8: A True North Atlantic Sea Day

Queen Mary 2 Winter Crossing Day 3 brings rougher seas, snow flurries, white caps, cold wind, and a real North Atlantic sea day onboard Cunard’s legendary ocean liner. After a calm first full day at sea, the Atlantic starts to wake up as we continue our 8-day transatlantic crossing from New York to Southampton. In this video, we experience what it feels like sailing the North Atlantic in January on Queen Mary 2, with colder weather, wet decks, snow at sea, and the ship beginning to move more as the seas pick up. We start the morning with room service breakfast in our cabin, then head outside to Deck 7 to walk the promenade and take in the winter ocean views. This is not the Caribbean — this is a true winter transatlantic crossing aboard the only ocean liner built for regular North Atlantic service. Queen Mary 2 feels different out here, especially when the wind picks up, the ocean gets darker, and the ship reminds you exactly what she was designed to do. We also talk about some of the unique details onboard QM2, including the sheltered balcony experience, the Deck 7 promenade, King’s Court views, and the spare propeller blades displayed on deck — which many passengers mistake for artwork. Queen Mary 2 really does feel like a floating museum, full of maritime history, Cunard tradition, and classic ocean liner character. Later, we stop at the Golden Lion Pub for lunch, where we try fish and chips, mushy peas, a Broadside beer, and a Queen Mary 2 gin and tonic. As the day continues, we feel the ship rocking more from our balcony before heading to the Queen’s Room for the captain’s cocktail party, where Captain Aseem Hashmi talks about the voyage, the weather, and why Queen Mary 2 was built for the North Atlantic.
