Aid climbing when solo requires a ton of messing about with gear. One way to save time is to have your haul bag on a hook so you don't have to rappel down to release it after you have climbed the next pitch. Traditionally climbers have modified Fifi hooks to fill this role, but this isn't very secure and has resulted in injuries where haul bags have fallen unexpectedly and shock loaded the climber. Brent at Avant Climbing Innovations has brought a product to market that is specifically designed to fill this role. His hooks have a longer arm that increases security and a dogleg that can jam in the event of a hard tug from below. The hook still releases when hauled from above. https://hownot2.com/products/avant-solo-haul-hook Petzl also makes a hook that they market for Haul bag retrieval. It is more expensive, less secure, and needs a quick link to enable the haul bag retrieval, but it can be used as a Fifi hook. https://hownot2.com/products/fifi-hook Check out Avant's content at https://www.youtube.com/@AvantClimbingInnovations 👉 Learn and SHOP at https://www.hownot2.com/ 👉 Best EMAILS on Earth: https://www.hownot2.com/signup 👉 10% off ROCKY TALKIE by clicking https://www.hownot2.com/rocky
