Jade Bonsai ~ Portulacaria Afra Bonsai Branch Refinement When you trim a bonsai you stimulate re-growth, so regular timing will create more dese growth and allow you to shape the tree and create ramification which is the development of the fine secondary and tertiary branches which gives a bonsai the fine delicate branch structure that ultimately makes it look like a real old mature tree. Today I will be doing the first prune of my new Jade Bonsai to remove some of the longest branches. As we are coming into winter I don't want to do too much work as the tree will not be actively growing and so may not recover from too much pruning. So in the springtime, I will be back to do some more pruning for shape and structure.
