My hydroponic strawberry tower is officially one day old, and I'm excited to share an update on its progress! I've transplanted all my strawberry plants from the garden, along with some additional greenhouse plants to ensure every spot is filled. Even after a day, nothing has died, which is a fantastic sign that the irrigation schedule is working as intended. In this video, I'll walk you through the planting process, share how I converted soil-grown plants to a hydroponic system, and discuss the varieties I've chosen for this tower. I initially planned to use Seascape strawberries exclusively due to their past success in my hydroponic setups, but a limited supply led me to diversify with Albion and an unknown everbearing variety. This offers a great opportunity to observe which variety performs best in this vertical system for future reference. I'll also demonstrate my simple method for cleaning soil from the roots of both greenhouse and garden plants before they go into the hydron. Plus, I'll share a crucial tip for maximizing your strawberry yield by strategically placing runners. I'm currently using a diluted tomato formula fertilizer and an irrigation schedule of 15 minutes on/60 minutes off during the day, switching to 15 minutes on/90 minutes off at night. I'm carefully monitoring for any wilting, but in my past experience, continuous irrigation hasn't caused issues. I'll also address a minor hiccup with hydron plugging the layers and how to easily resolve it. I'll continue to provide updates on this vertical garden, so feel free to ask any questions in the comments below!
