Most people use OpenClaw like a fancy chatbot: prompt, wait, prompt again. In this video, I show why that’s a waste of what OpenClaw was built for—and how Skills are the fastest way to upgrade your agent so it does more with fewer prompts. Think of Skills like “I know kung fu” from The Matrix: you install a simple SKILL.md file and suddenly your agent has a reusable instruction set ready the moment you open a session. I break down what’s inside a skill.md (YAML frontmatter for requirements + natural-language instructions for how/when to use it), and I clear up the common confusion between the agent (OpenClaw), a skill (reusable instructions), and sub-agents (workers that execute tasks). Then I walk through the four skill types you’ll see everywhere: tool-wrapping (like Tavily web search or Obsidian), behavioral (how you want work done), self-improvement (powerful, but where many security issues happen), and security skills (like ClawSec for audits and integrity checks). Finally, I cover the step most tutorials skip: basic operational security. Before you install anything, read the SKILL.md, scan it, and test it in isolation—especially if it’s coming from GitHub. Skills are amazing, but you need to verify them before you give them access to your real workspace.
