Grate the bar of soap into small flakes using a cheese grater or food processor. 2. In a large pot, combine the soap flakes and one gallon of hot water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the soap flakes are completely dissolved. 3. Add the washing soda and to the pot, stirring constantly until they are fully dissolved. 4. Remove the pot from heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes. . Pour the mixture into a large container or gallon-sized jug. . Let the soap sit for 24 hours to thicken. After 24 hours, the soap will have thickened to a gel-like consistency. Stir the soap before using. To use: - For regular loads, use 1/4 cup of the homemade laundry soap. - For larger or heavily soiled loads, use 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the homemade laundry soap. Note: This homemade liquid laundry soap is safe for both standard and high-efficiency washing machines. It is also fragrance-free, so you can add essential oils if you prefer a scented laundry soap.
