TikTok is full of curly hair hacks, but not all of them make sense. The latest trend? The ice bowl hack for curly hair—where people dunk their freshly styled curls into a bowl of ice water in hopes of locking in definition, reducing frizz, and creating shine. In this video, I’m breaking down what this method is, why it’s not backed by science, and what actually works if those are your hair goals. ▶️ https://youtu.be/a0X28kmsg3A ▶️ https://youtu.be/nG-dIF_C7wo Thanks for watching! 👉Click here to subscribe for new videos: https://holisticenchilada.com/youtube I participate in various affiliate programs, including Amazon, and I sometimes get a commission through purchases made through my links here. _______________________ RESOURCES: 👉Start here: https://holisticenchilada.com/start-here/ ➰Master Your Curls Quick Start Guide: http://bit.ly/3iQEPPa 💡 Curly Hair Type Quiz: https://bit.ly/3e40539 📗 The Curly Product Handbook: https://bit.ly/3eGCk02 📥Other free downloads here: https://holisticenchilada.com/resources/ 👩🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏾Facebook Group: http://bit.ly/39mj1I2 _______________________ PRODUCTS & DISCOUNTS: 🛒Visit my Shop: http://bit.ly/3ppuyf5 ▶HAIR: EVOLVh - 15% off https://bit.ly/2wwAIRk TreLuxe - https://bit.ly/3hXSuCA code holisticenchilada15 saves you 15% Raw Curls - http://bit.ly/32EWVdI MopTop - https://bit.ly/2YhXv0E use code HE10 to save 10% Tee-Owels Hair Towel http://bit.ly/3iPc98Y use code HOLISTICENCHILADA to save 15% Kerotin - https://bit.ly/3zdIGQp use code HE15 to save 15% A Simple Planet - http://bit.ly/3QBlhik use code HE15 to save 15% LUS - http://bit.ly/3GDsdXK use code HOLISTICENCHILADA10 to save 10% Miribel Naturals - http://bit.ly/3w208V3 use code HOLISTICENCHILADA ▶SKIN & MAKEUP Detox Box - https://shrsl.com/2numm Petit Vour beauty box - use code FIRSTBOX to save https://shrsl.com/18vva Me Time Botanicals - use code HE10 to save 10% https://bit.ly/2QAVYiR Plume - save 15% on orders over $50 https://bit.ly/2xa0n5x 🛒Shop all my favorite products here: http://bit.ly/35lA0WS 🛒Visit my AMAZON Shop here: https://www.amazon.com/shop/holisticenchilada ------------------------------------------------------ About The Holistic Enchilada Hi and welcome to The Holistic Enchilada! About This Video

TikTok is full of curly hair hacks, and the ice bowl method is one of those trends that sounds terrible (because it is). In this video I break down what the ice bowl hack actually is—dunking your styled (or pre-styled) hair into a bowl of ice water—and the big claims people make about it: less frizz, “locked-in” definition, more shine, and “sealing” the cuticle. Then I explain why I’m not doing it and why, scientifically, it makes zero sense. Hair is keratin—it’s not a living thing that can open and close based on temperature. The “cold water seals the cuticle” idea doesn’t have real backing, and changing water temperature doesn’t change pH. What actually helps the cuticle lie flatter is using lower-pH, more acidic products (aka conditioners), not ice water. Plus, the ice bowl method is uncomfortable, messy, can reduce blood flow in the scalp, and doesn’t align with how many styling products work best (a lot are heat-activated). Instead, I focus on what actually works for the goals people want: frizz control comes from hydration, minimizing friction, removing buildup, and using real hold (gel or mousse). Definition comes from smart water/product balance, microplopping, and techniques like glazing, scrunching, raking, or brush styling. Shine comes from a smoother cuticle, healthy hair, and sometimes lightweight serums—while accepting that some curl patterns just won’t look “glass shiny,” and that’s normal.
