I used this mini PCIe to M.2 NVMe adapter path to see if I could squeeze an NVMe boot drive into a system that was never meant to have one. It works for installs and, with Clover, you can actually boot it—just don’t expect speed miracles because the slot is severely bandwidth-limited.

Pros
- +Lets you physically connect an NVMe SSD to a mini PCIe slot
- +Enables using the SATA port for a second drive instead of the boot drive
Cons
- -Real-world performance can be heavily limited by the host mini PCIe slot (mine behaved like PCIe Gen1 x1)
- -May require a separate bootloader like Clover to actually boot
