MANS (Muffin’s Awesome NAS Stack) is a really solid starting point if you want the MergerFS + SnapRAID style setup without hand-rolling everything. It bundles a bunch of the pieces together and uses Ansible to deploy it, which is awesome if you’re already in that workflow. I didn’t use it here mainly because I wanted to learn the moving parts manually (and I’m not in Ansible every day).
