HexOS is the main thing I tested here: it’s TrueNAS SCALE underneath, but with a much simpler interface aimed at home users who just want stuff to work. When the beta behaved, it made pools, shares, and curated apps like Plex feel dramatically less intimidating—at the cost of some flexibility and a pretty spicy price tag.

- -Beta quirks and missing features (snapshots/replication, more curated apps, etc.)
- -Cloud-based dashboard required in the beta (no local UI yet)
- -Some tasks still push you into the TrueNAS UI
- -Price is high for the beginner audience ($300 lifetime after early access)
