Dual M.2 SATA 2.5" Adapter

This is probably the weirdest—and potentially most useful—adapter I tested: it fits in a 2.5" drive bay but holds two M.2 SATA SSDs and can do RAID 0/1 or a span, plus JBOD in the right setup. JBOD needs SATA port multiplication support (which many onboard controllers don’t have), but hardware RAID 1 worked fine and kept my data accessible even after I pulled a drive.

Pros

  • +Fits two M.2 SATA SSDs into a single 2.5-inch bay
  • +Hardware RAID 1 worked and survived a simulated drive failure

Cons

  • -JBOD requires SATA port multiplier support (often missing on onboard SATA)
  • -Hardware RAID monitoring/visibility can be poor, and the adapter is pricey for old systems
