The D1 Mini (ESP8266) was my go-to board for the temperature sensor and the garage door opener because it’s cheap and I already had a bunch. Once flashed, it handled ESPHome devices totally fine—and for a few bucks, it’s hard to argue with.

Pros

- -Web flashing was unreliable for me
- -Some versions lack mounting holes, which complicates enclosures
