After 8 years, it was wonderful to catch up again with our friends at Cut Throat in Amsterdam!! 🙌🏼 In 2013, Cut Throat Barber was founded by James Reichwein and Tom Sadd. The two friends hail from New Zealand, and after the devastating earthquake in Christchurch in 2011 Jimmy’s barbershop was destroyed. So Jimmy (who is also Dutch) decided to move to the Netherlands 🇳🇱 In the heart of Amsterdam, Jimmy and Tom opened Cut Throat Barber & Coffee. We remember the shop felt like a cozy neighborhood barbershop where you could hangout with a classic espresso whether waiting for a haircut or not ☕️ A couple years later, the shop moved into Amsterdam’s historic stock exchange building from the 1890s. Not only is there a barbershop set amongst the old beautiful arches, columns, and original brick and tiles; there’s also an adjoining restaurant and bar. A cool part of the history of this location is that a traditional barbershop used to be here from the 1930s up until the mid 90s primarily serving the stock traders. Jimmy recalls when he moved to Amsterdam, there weren’t many barbershops around but over the years the number of barbershops in the city has grown tremendously. So in August 2021 they decided to do something different, new and fresh again. They opened a second barbershop in Amsterdam’s popular and cosmopolitan neighborhood called De Pijp. Join us as Jimmy gives us a tour of this very elegant and classy barbershop. There are still connections to the original shop. From the antique barber chairs to Robbie, the shop manager, who began working at the original Cut Throat location in 2014. Since Jimmy is from New Zealand, he feels a close bond with the iconic Australian brand Uppercut.
