Haircut and hair styling in the historic 성우이용원 Seongu Barbershop in Seoul, South Korea 🇰🇷 ▶️ Part 2 of this video includes a traditional shave & hair wash 👉🏼 https://youtu.be/7PGEY2vt1mg Born in 1949, Mr. Lee was raised in the family home where his grandfather opened Seongu Barbershop in Seoul in 1927 💈 At that time, Mr. Lee’s grandfather was the second Korean who was given a permit for barbering by the occupying Japanese. 💇🏻‍♂️ It was in the 1960s when Mr. Lee began cutting hair. He learned everything from his dad and worked with him until his dad decided to retire. When we visited Seongu in 2019, nothing much had changed with the barbershop except for a storm that once tore off the thatched roof. We stopped by the shop to film on a weekday afternoon, thinking it might be quieter during the week than on the weekend. We found Mr. Lee had a regular stream of customers coming by the shop so when it was our turn, I hopped into the chair and the camera started to roll! Mr. Lee is a little over 5’ tall so uses a footstool to stand on while working on his customers. You’ll also see him using potato starch in my hair as a visual aid. In the past, barbers used powders that contained asbestos so Mr. Lee switched to potato starch as it is not harmful. He still lathers up his shaving soap on the side of a hot water pot heated on a charcoal stove and uses watering cans to wash your hair as well as does a vinegar rinse ✨ Huge thanks to @reisantos for recommending this shop to us 😊 T H A N K Y O U !
