I’m working on a Sheltie with a packed undercoat, but this routine is the exact same simple process I use on any double-coated dog. The goal isn’t to “rip coat out.” The goal is to safely release dead coat, protect the coat structure, and set yourself up for a clean, long-lasting finish. I show you how I de-shed without reaching for sharp, damaging tools, and how I choose brushes, combs, and rakes that preserve the coat and keep the skin healthy. I also explain what I’m looking for as I work—how to recognize coat damage early, how to avoid creating it, and why your brushing technique matters just as much as the tool in your hand.
