The ASUS ProArt Z690 Creator WiFi is one of the most creator-focused Intel boards I’ve looked at, mainly because the storage and I/O are absolutely stacked. Four PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, eight SATA ports, Thunderbolt, 10GbE, and that 20Gbps USB‑C with 60W charging make it a legit workflow-first platform—especially if you’re moving big files all day.

Buy on Amazon

You'll be taken to Amazon to complete your purchase.

Pros

  • +Four PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots plus eight SATA ports (up to 12 drives total)
  • +Thunderbolt ports and tons of 10Gbps USB on the rear I/O
  • +10GbE + 2.5GbE networking for fast NAS workflows
  • +20Gbps front USB-C with 60W fast charging support
  • +Strong VRM and 8+4 EPS power for high-end CPUs

Cons

  • -Pricey at around $479
  • -DDR5-only, so memory costs more than DDR4 builds

What GigaGeek says

thank you [Music] [Music] hey guys welcome back to another video I hope you guys enjoyed that little gimbal sequence I got a new Gimbal and I just wanted to try it out let me know what you think and in this video I'll be going over the Asus Pro z690 Creator Wi-Fi is it the best z690 Creator motherboard let's find out to establish what I said before this motherboard is mainly designed for creators it can be used for gaming but it's mainly designed for applications like video editing or animation or any other creative tasks like that now let's talk about what makes this motherboard for creators starting off with the design a lot of gaming motherboards are very like edgy and they have a lot of lines and makes a kind of a game read aesthetic I like that but in this motherboard it's a very modern design as you can tell with these as for the socket here we have the LGA 1700 socket this is meant for 12 gen CPUs like the I9 toner 100K the 12700k and other Intel 1210 CPUs to power it we have an 8 Pin EPS connector and a 4
0ps connector now let's move into some of the fan headers of this motherboard starting off with the CPU fan headers we have one CPU fan header here one CPU op fan header and AIO pump header make sure you don't plug in a fan into an AIO pump header because the AO pump header runs at 100 so there's no variability in speed as for pwm headers we have two right here next to the CPU socket uh right to the left vrm and we have three more on the bottom one here one here and one right here and there's one unique feature on this motherboard I haven't seen on any other motherboards so it's called a CPU over voltage header it's right over here and if you move this little plastic piece to the other two pins right here it's a lot it allows the motherboard to basically increase the voltage a lot of the CPU so if you want to overclock it'll be good for that now let's move on to all the argb and RGB headers on this motherboard uh we have two argb headers on the bottom uh argb no RGB we have one argb header on the side argb again and we have one RGB header for 12 RGB devices on the top now let's talk about all the storage on this motherboard this is where the motherboard shows it's like two colors everything is just amazing about it we have four nvme 4
0 speeds and unlike other motherboards it'll actually disable some of the SATA drives in order to utilize some of the nvme slots this motherboard you can actually utilize all four nvne nvme drives plus the I didn't mention eight SATA ports on this motherboard so you can have one two three four plus eight 12 individual drives in this motherboard now for USB drives so this motherboard has two USB 2s One USB 3 right here and one USBC I want to talk about this USBC right here it's a USBC 3
2 gen 2x2 that also supports fast charging 60 watts so you can charge like a Macbook using this thing which is just crazy it also supports 20 gigabit per second speeds which is crazy not many devices nowadays even support that right now but let's say you have like an nvme enclosure you have like an nvme drive you just plug right in and you plug it into your PC it kind of like an external solution but still with the really fast speeds you'll be able to utilize that with this port right here and of course we have the two usb2 connectors in the bottom now let's move on let's move on to some of the power ports on this motherboard so we have a one we have one eight pin EPS for the CPU and one four pin for the CPU this is great for overclocking if you're if you want to do that this is a Creator motherboards I don't expect many video editors to overclock they just want stability so but it's still the option if you want it anyways on the right we have a 24 pin connector pretty standard but one thing I haven't seen is this pcie connector on the motherboard usually just goes on graphics cards right in this case it actually connects straight to this 60 watt USBC like I said before it draws so much power the the 24 pin cannot supply all the energy it needs so the six pin pcie allows this USBC connector to utilize fast charging and also the 60 watt capability for charging MacBooks and laptops like that now for some of the other connectors on this motherboard there's a clear CMOS header on this motherboard and there's the over voltage header like I talked about before and there's also a temperature sensor so if you want to add like a temperature probe to monitor the temperature in your system and you can maybe sync up your fan to that temperature you'll be able to do that now let's move on to some of the ram specs on this motherboard this motherboard only supports dddr5 let's make that clear only ddr5 so you can't put a DDR3 stick you can't beat put a ddr4 stick it is not backwards compatible so don't try The Notches actually align differently so you cannot physically put a ddr4 stick into here and ddr5 used to have a history of being extremely expensive and had some like issues with software like Premiere Pro or any other or some games or video editing software but a lot of that has been sorted out and the price has gone down significantly and if you're buying a motherboard of this price point which I'll get to later you have to budget in the price of ddr5 it is still quite a bit more expensive than ddr4 but it's not the scalper prices that we saw a couple months ago and if you are looking for a Creator motherboard that supports the ddr4 the vision G by gigabyte is a good choice now for pcie slots the first slot is a pcie 5
2 and then we have our audio stuff and we also have a bio splashback now as a Creator this is the dream back panel i o I don't have a Nas myself but if I had one this would be perfect there's so many super fast USB USB ports super fast uh ethernet port super fast uh Thunderbolt ports everything on here is just great it's perfectly tailored to content creators now of the content creation specific kind of features on this motherboard one thing I like to see Asus added this extra security feature which basically lets you set the USB ports to either read-only or ride only for added security this motherboard also comes with a software called creation first the software basically allows the user to prioritize certain content creation applications like Premiere Pro and after effects so that you don't experience any hiccups in your performance and it'll be all nice and smooth so what do I think about this motherboard as a Creator myself I really love this motherboard I kind of wish I had it I love all the expandability you get with all the NVA media drives and the Saturn drives all the fast USB ports Thunderbolts display ports USB this 20 gigabit USBC thing it's absolutely perfect it does however come with the pricier side at 479 dollars but for you super heavy video editors out there I think this is the perfect choice all right I hope you guys enjoyed that video make sure to subscribe like share this with all your content creator friends thank you for watching see you next time [Music]
