About This Video

In this beginner Excel tutorial, I walk you through Microsoft Excel step by step—from the moment you open a blank workbook to the point where you’re building real, working spreadsheets that update themselves. I start with the basics (cells, rows/columns, the ribbon, the formula bar), then show you how to enter, edit, and format data fast using things like autofill, resizing, find/replace, and the “select to effect” rule. Once you can move confidently, I turn your messy grids into structured tables so you can sort, filter, and expand data without breaking anything. The core of the video is hands-on: we build a payroll tracker with formulas (including overtime logic with IF), a gradebook with averages, pass/fail rules, conditional formatting, and ranking, and a career decision chart using SUMPRODUCT with absolute references. Then I switch into “real data is messy” mode—cleaning a sales database with Text to Columns, calculating commissions, and using charts to spot trends. Finally, I show how to pull data across sheets with XLOOKUP and TEXTJOIN, summarize large datasets with PivotTables (plus slicers and refresh behavior), and where Excel’s AI fits in—why Analyze Data feels dated, and how Copilot chat can answer plain-English questions like total sales or top salesperson.
