Scuba Diving Through Poisonous Gas In Mexico's Cenotes (Zapote - Kin Ha)

Scuba diving cenotes in Tulum, Mexico including Hells Bells at Cenote Zapote and Kin Ha cenote, exploring hydrogen sulfide clouds, massive speleothems, and underground cave systems. Traveling from Cozumel into the jungles of Tulum was adventure on its own but our first dives took place at Cenote Zapote, known to divers as Hells Bells. This cenote is defined by enormous bell-shaped speleothems that hang from the ceiling, creating one of the most alien underwater environments on earth. Zapote is also home to a thick hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) cloud, a dense layer that destroys visibility, distorts depth perception, and completely alters spatial awareness as you pass through it. We also dove Cenote Kin Ha, a system known for its dramatic light rays and unique entry. The dive begins from a floating dock inside the cave itself, already surrounded by darkness. As you descend, shafts of sunlight cut through openings above, creating some of the most striking natural light found in any cenote. Both locations reveal a world that once existed dry and is now flooded, shaped by collapse, chemistry, and time. These are not normal dives.
