About This Video

Hey girlfriend friends! In this video I’m showing y’all exactly how I do mini twists on my type 4 natural hair—one of my fave protective styles that I only do like once or twice a year because… whew, it takes TIME. I walk you through what you actually need (a leave-in, a gel, a three-way mirror, and patience), plus what I recommend doing first: a full wash day and a deep condition. If I’m going to keep a style in for a while, I want my hair to start off moisturized and taken care of. I also share how I part (the back is the hardest part, okay), how I keep my hair from drying out while I work (shower cap up top), and why I didn’t blow dry this time. Instead, I braided my hair to stretch it so I could avoid extra heat, then combed it out as I went. My biggest technique tip is that I braid at the root first, then twist the rest—this helps the twist lay flatter, looks neater, and helps with frizz at the root. The final look was super cute, I wore it for about a month, and I did have to retwist midway because summer humidity had my hair swelling up (which is expected when you’re using your own hair and no extensions).
