As energy, technology, economics, and security become increasingly intertwined, Europe faces critical questions about resilience, competitiveness, and strategic autonomy. Irina Patrahau, Chair of the Energy Security and Critical Minerals Programme at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies and a participant in this year's GLOBSEC Young Leaders Forum (GYLF), examines Europe's vulnerabilities in energy and critical minerals supply chains, the risk of new dependencies emerging from the green transition, and how Europe can navigate growing competition with China while protecting its strategic interests. Drawing on insights from GYLF, she also reflects on how the next generation of leaders can prepare for a world where geopolitics, technology, and economic security are inseparable.
