Migration has long tested Europe’s ability to balance humanitarian commitments, economic needs and security challenges, but the scale and complexity of today’s interlocking challenges has made that balance harder to sustain than at any point in a generation. The EU Migration and Asylum Pact represents an important effort to build a more coordinated European framework, bringing together member states with deeply different experiences and priorities. Yet translating political agreement into effective policy will require sustained cooperation between governments, institutions, and communities across the continent.
