Walking Through History at Fort Union National Monument

Today we visited Fort Union National Monument in beautiful New Mexico and explored one of the most important forts in the Southwest. Fort Union was established in 1851 and became a major military supply post that protected travelers, trade routes, and settlements in the region. I also talk about the Maxwell Land Grant, one of the largest land grants in American history, covering nearly 2 million acres. The grant led to years of disputes, confusion over land ownership, and dramatic changes for settlers and local families.
