This weekend on the farm, we planted a bunch of new hot pepper plants—including 16 Carolina Reapers, some of the hottest peppers in the world! I share the custom soil recipe we mixed to give them the best start in our 7-gallon grow bags, and we get the greenhouse ready for a big pepper season. Of course, farm life means extra projects too—cutting trees, building greenhouse shelves, mixing more soil, and bracing the greenhouse for strong winds. Pepper Soil Mix Recipe: (One part = one 1-gallon bucket) • 3 parts compost • 2 parts coco coir or peat moss • 1 part perlite or pumice Amendments per batch: • ½ part worm castings (optional, but highly recommended) • ¼ cup bone meal • ¼ cup blood meal or alfalfa meal • 1 tablespoon Epsom salt • 1 tablespoon crushed eggshells or agricultural lime Mix thoroughly before planting for healthy, productive pepper plants!
