The ESR Shift keyboard case is my favorite kind of iPad keyboard: it doesn’t ignore the fact that the iPad is a tablet. I can detach the keyboard, keep the iPad protected, and still type via Bluetooth while I’m handwriting notes—something I couldn’t do cleanly with the Magic Keyboard.
Pros
+Two-piece design makes switching between laptop mode and tablet mode seamless
+Bluetooth lets the keyboard work even when detached
+Backlit keys (even when some expensive Apple keyboards aren’t)
+Large trackpad you can click pretty much anywhere
+Built-in adjustable stand with wide angle range and portrait support
+Case protects the iPad even when the keyboard is removed
Cons
-No Smart Connector (needs pairing and occasional charging)
-No extra passthrough USB-C charging port like the Magic Keyboard
-More awkward on your lap than the Magic Keyboard
-11-inch version doesn’t have a dedicated function row (uses Fn shortcuts)
