In the spring time, the easiest way to catch rainbow trout is when there is a big chironomid hatch happening. My favourite way of catching them is by using a light spinning or baitcasting setup to drop the chironomid fly into the deep water and suspend it just above the bottom, and watch the rod getting pulled down!
