Florida Has a Shark Problem...And It's Getting Worse

When you first hear "shark problem", you're probably assuming that Florida is overrun with sharks that are attacking beachgoers on a daily basis, however, this issue deals with a long-standing battle: sharks and fishermen. Florida fishermen claim that there has been a shark population "boom" in the sunshine state and that it's time for action to be taken. On the other hand, researchers argue that shark populations are still far from historical numbers, and are greatly concerned with possible population control methods in the near future. This brings us to the driving force behind this video, a new bill sponsored by Florida Senator Rick Scott, which puts together a task force to study depredation events (when a shark takes a fisherman's catch), however, this bill doesn't protect sharks from possible culls or hunts, which has sparked fierce debate in the scientific community.
