Welcome to Day 14 of my Watercolor Tip-a-Day series! Today, I’m showing you how to paint with negative space using soft, layered watercolor washes to make your subject pop without painting it directly. In this tutorial, we’ll create a glowing leaf composition, using blues and greens in wet-on-wet backgrounds, then slowly build depth by painting around the leaves instead of inside them. You’ll learn how to: ✨ Use negative space to build shapes ✨ Layer with light-to-dark values for depth ✨ Keep foreground leaves glowing and background ones soft ✨ Combine wet-in-wet and wet-on-dry for stunning results This technique works beautifully with florals, botanicals, or abstract shapes too.. once you learn it, you’ll see how versatile it really is.
