Elon Musk’s electric car company has spawned a massive new battery manufacturing business, which is the genesis of its new line of battery products for homes. The PowerWall comes in two models, and they’re most useful for homeowners who are also investing in a solar power setup. But the costs are significant, and the savings on electricity won’t offset those costs for many years, even with a solar panel recharging the battery with free energy.
