In this video, I’m showing you how to create the trippy Echo Print (echoing) effect—the ghostly motion trail you’ve probably seen in music videos like Dua Lipa’s “Training Season” and films like Tenet and Doctor Strange. I break down both parts: how I shoot it (so the edit becomes easy) and how I build it step by step in Premiere Pro. The best part is you don’t need any fancy gear—just your camera, a little bit of movement, and some creative editing tricks. For the shoot, I lock my camera on a tripod, light the scene (background light, key light, and a ring light for edge), and record one main action clip. Then, without moving the camera, I switch to manual focus and change my settings (like 1/10 shutter) to capture multiple “walking” clips in different directions—these become the ghost trail layers. I also record a clean plate of the background. In post, I remove the background from the main clip using After Effects (Roto Brush + Freeze), then mask each walking clip in Premiere Pro with keyframed mask paths and feathering for smooth blending. Finally, I stack and offset layers for stronger trails, add an orange/teal look, and finish with 16mm film grain for that cinematic texture.
